Privacy Policy

Last updated 23 May 2026

Stowe is a shared household food, shopping and meal-planning app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have over it. We keep it plain.

What we collect

  • Account: your email, password (stored securely by our auth provider), display name, and an optional profile photo.
  • Household content: shopping lists, pantry/inventory items, meal plans, saved recipes, taste preferences, shopping trips and in-app notifications you create or share with your household.
  • Photos you take: fridge, pantry, plate and receipt photos you choose to scan. These are processed to recognise items and stored in your household's private storage.
  • Goals & food log: if you use Goals, your chosen goal, calorie/protein targets, and the meals you log. This is private to you.
  • Location: only when you tap “Find supermarkets near you,” we use your device location once to look up nearby stores. We do not track or store your location.
  • Device & notifications: if you enable push notifications, your device's push subscription so we can deliver alerts.

How we use it

To run the app: sync your household's list and pantry, recognise items in photos, suggest meals and recipes, track goals, send the notifications you ask for, and find nearby stores. We use it to operate and improve Stowe — not to build advertising profiles.

Who we share it with (service providers)

We don't sell your data. We use a small set of trusted providers to run the app:

  • Supabase — database, authentication and photo storage.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — AI that reads your scan photos and text to recognise items and generate recipes. Sent only when you use those features.
  • Vercel — app hosting and delivery.
  • Geoapify — receives approximate coordinates when you search for nearby stores, to return supermarket results.

Keeping it safe

Data is encrypted in transit, and your household's content is protected by row-level security so only members of your household (and, for private things like your cookbook and food log, only you) can read it.

Your choices & deleting your account

You can edit or remove items, photos and preferences at any time. You can delete your entire account from Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account. That permanently removes your profile, your private cookbook, and your goals & food log, and signs you out. Content you contributed to a shared household (e.g. list items) remains with that household.

Children

Stowe isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
